Xander: Uh, that's Rodney Munson. He's God's gift to the bell curve. What he lacks in smarts he makes up in lack of smarts.
Buffy tries to convince Giles to let her have a break for one night to go to the dance. She and Xander talks about Willow, with Xander saying that Willow is not the type of girl he thinks romantically about. Willow, overhearing, is not happy, and she tells Buffy that Rodney is missing. The four visit the museum again, finding the seal broken but still no sign of Rodney. Suddenly a man appears from nowhere and attacks Xander but he sees the broken seal and runs off. It is then that Willow notices that the mummy lying in the coffin has braces.
Giles begins researching on the death of Rodney but Buffy rushes to meet the exchange student, Ampata who is waiting at the bus station. He hears a whisper and investigates. Suddenly a mummy grabs him, kisses him and he begins to shrivel. Buffy arrives, with Xander and Willow in tow. They search for Ampata, when the mummy, now a young teenage girl steps out. She says she is Ampata, and Xander is quickly taken with her while Willow and Buffy are shocked.
In school, Cordelia is having a little trouble with her exchange student, complaining that he does not speak a word of English. Giles shows Ampata the broken seal. She earnestly asks Giles to hide it, and telling him that the pictogram of a man with a knife is a bodyguard to protect the princess. Giles begins to research on mummies and Xander is more than happy when Buffy asks Xander to show Ampata around the school. He teaches her how to eat a Twinkie but they are interrupted when the man from the museum turns up and chases them.
In the library, Ampata seems shook up and pleads to Giles to destroy the seal which the mysterious man has asked for. She cries and runs out and Xander goes after her. Willow, though jealous, tells Xander to ask Ampata to the dance. She agrees, after she mummifies the mysterious man. Buffy gets really suspicious when Ampata is getting ready for the dance, yet does not have any lipstick. She sets about unpacking her trunk just as Xander arrives, and does not see the mummy inside it. Ampata quickly puts a padlock on the trunk as soon as Buffy has left the room.
At the dance, Cordelia tries to off load her exchange student,Sven, to her friend. Sven complains about Cordelia in perfectly good English. Willow, dressed as an Eskimo, is jealous as she watches Xander and Ampata dance. Suddenly Ampata runs off just as they are kissing. Her hand has begun to mummify. She drags another student backstage and tries to kiss him, but he runs away when he hears Xander coming. Ampata kisses Xander, draining his life force, but she stops before Xander is mummified. Giles, in the meantime, realises that the man is not a bodyguard, rather a guard to prevent the mummy from escaping. They find a whole lot of boy's clothes in Ampata's cases and the mummified corpse in the trunk. Buffy heads off to the dance to save Xander while Giles tries to piece the seal back together.
Buffy finds Willow, and the two run off, just as Oz walks over to talk to them, leaving him wondering about the Eskimo girl. As the seal is almost complete, Ampata senses something wrong and runs off. Buffy finds Xander weakened, but still alive and together, the trio rushes after Ampata to the museum. Ampata attacks Giles, breaking the seal into even smaller pieces. She and Buffy starts fighting, but she shoves Buffy into the coffin along with Giles. Just then Willow arrives, and Ampata starts to kiss her. Xander asks Ampata to take him instead. As she is already mummified to the neck, she doesn't hesitate. Xander grabs her by the arms holding her back as she continues to mummify. Buffy, having made her way out of the coffin, pulls Ampata away from Xander. Xander's hold on her is so strong that her arms fell off, and when Buffy lets go from the mummy, the head rolls off. Willow and Buffy comforts him.
Xander: Hold on a sec. So, this person who's living with you for two weeks is a man. With man parts. This is a terrible idea.
Xander: Uh, that's Rodney Munson. He's God's gift to the bell curve. What he lacks in smarts he makes up in lack of smarts.
Buffy: I wasn't gonna use violence. I don't always use violence. Do I?
Xander: The important thing is that YOU believe that.
Giles (after training with Buffy): I'll just go and introduce my shoulder to an icepack.
Willow: On the other hand, maybe Rodney just stepped out for a smoke.
Xander: For twenty-one hours?
Willow: It's addictive, you know.
Giles: We'll deal with that when we've ruled out evil curses.
Buffy: One day I'm gonna live in a town where evil curses are just generally ruled out without even saying.
Devon: Oz, man! What do you think?
Oz: Of what?
Devon: Cordelia, man!
Oz: She's a wonderland tour.
Devon: You gotta admit, the girl is hot!
Oz: Yeah, she's a hot girl.
Devon: Let me guess, not your type? What does a girl have to do to impress you?
Oz: Well, it involves a feathered boa and a theme to 'A Summer Place'. I can't discuss it here.
Devon: You're too picky, man. Do you know how many girls you could have? You're lead guitar, Oz. It's currency!
Oz: I'm not picky. You're just impressed by any pretty girl that can walk and talk.
Devon: (smirks) She doesn't have to talk.
Xander (discussing costume for dance): Okay, no shirts with ruffles, no hats with feathers and definitely no lederhosen. They make my calves look fat.
Willow: Why are you suddenly so worried about looking like an idiot?
Buffy: Hey! Look at us! We came up with a plan. A good plan.
Giles: Alright. We'll meet there tonight after it closes.
Buffy: No! Bad plan. I have other plans. Dance plans. (sighs) Cancelled plans.
Cordelia (seeing Willow's costume): Oh! Near faux pas! I almost wore the same thing!
Xander: Have you seen Ampata? (Willow shrugs) What was that?
Willow in Eskimo outfit: I shrugged.
Xander: Next time you should probably say 'shrug'. (walks off)
Willow: Sigh.
